Her first look dropped earlier this year, already had fans excited and the trailer has dropped more hints about her.
A trailer revealed plot details as well as new cast member for the franchise. Dune: Prophecy is set to be packed major players in the history of Dune universe. The clip confirms that the show focuses on the Harkonnen sisters, especially Emily Watson’s Valya Harkonnen and Olivia Willaims’ Tula Harkonnen. However, the sisterhood isn’t exactly welcomed at Arrakis, unlike the film they are perceived as a silent threat to the empire. The show will also explore the feud between House Harkonnen and House Atreides. According to reports, the show will see six-episode but there has been no confirmation about multiple seasons.
Dune: Prophecy is set to take place about 10,000 years before the Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. As the trailer suggested the show will explore the origin of the Bene Gesserit, their abilities, power in the world and more. For the unversed. Bene Gesserit are the group of women with supernatural abilities who covertly exert their influence over the entire Dune universe from the shadows, including the royal families of the universe. One of their main purposes as hinted at in Dune 1 and 2 is to bring forth the one and true saviour of humanity. Their main aim is to gain enough power to unite the Houses and produce a superhuman that will save humanity.

In the Dune films Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet)’s mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) is a Bene Gesserit. In the first and the second film, she can be seen training her son in their ways to gain power and perfect it. During a media interaction the showrunner Alison Schapker revealed that the show will explore more about the Bene Gesserit than what’s presented in the films. She was quoted by USAToday saying, “In the films, they’re very much in their full power and they’re making their moves, but they’re cloaked in a kind of intrigue. We certainly don’t want to take away their mystique, but we do go behind their closed doors and see how they operate.”
Since the show takes place 10,000 years before the films, while the same characters may not exist the houses, and their stories certainly do. Talking about the connection between the prequel and the films, showurnner Schapker explained it takes place “on the other side of the rise of artificial intelligence.” She revealed that the show will begin after the war that ended with all AI and thinking machines being banned from the Dune universe.
She added that the show explores humanity, “Humans have had to strive to fill the void of things that used to be performed by technology. Now, humans are coming to try to push the boundaries of what it means to be human forward so they can fill that gap. … It lets us ask questions about the role of technology in a new way.”
Dune always has been and always will be the story of Arrakis, which is why I am even more excited that #DuneProphecy gets to show us so many interesting looking places across the Imperium! I am so excited to see more of all these worlds within this fragile universe. pic.twitter.com/vzPtniNERd
