A popular Bengaluru-based YouTuber with a following of 1.5 million recently offered a Video Editor job to an IIT, who turned down the offer at last minute. The Youtuber, Ishan Sharma, talks about career, freelancing and business in his YouTube videos. The job applicant is a student at IIT Madras, pursuing a BSc in Computer Science, as per HT.com.

The Youtuber shared a screenshot of the email he received from the IITian rejecting the job offer. The caption of Sharma’s the post read “Tried hiring a video editor. He signed the offer letter. And then sends me this email. Has happened with me multiple times.”

He stated that the reason for not going ahead with the offer is that leaving the IIT campus at this stage of his life isn’t the right choice for him. He added that he would like to complete his two more years finishing his graduation. He emphasized, “This is my final decision. It won’t change.”

Notably, he also clarified that Sharma’s offer was “excellent” and that he was not turning the job down over money.

One wrote, “Not a hater but, I’ve heard from a few guys that you pay quite low to editors considering your brand value, Could that be the reason?” another wrote, “he expected the salary to increase.”

Some users suggested Sharma to go for professionals as the “college kids” are not that reliable. One user commented, “Go for professionals, pay them good salary, They will stick. These college kids change their mood every hour”, another wrote, “Stop hiring students”

Notably, some users supported the applicant’s decision to reject the offer and continue with the studies. One user said, “Leaving IIT for an individual content creator (who is still not a brand) is not a good decision. He did the right thing.”I think he is not lying. IITians do decide to stay for a year or more to enjoy the campus life there.(Extending their 4 year degree to 5 year). They’ve worked their ass off for it so I understand.”
