Minister of Communication Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia unveiled the refurbished new logo of the state-run telecom Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The new logo replaced the gray circle with a saffron one and the former red-blue arrows with white and green, depicting the tricolor. The circle also embeds the geographical map of India. The tagline of ‘Connecting India’ has been replaced with ‘Connecting Bharat’ with the new motto ‘securely, affordably, and reliably.’ Besides the brand new logo, the telco also launched seven new initiatives, including 1) automatic phishing and spam blocking, 2) free wi-fi at BSNL hotspots, 3) IFTV or Infranet TV with 500+ live channels, 4) 24/7 SIM kiosk service, 5) India’s very first D2D service, 6) an encrypted disaster relief network, and 7) low-latency 5G for mining operations. Speaking at the event, minister Scindia remarked that the launch of seven services is “Made in Bharat, Made by Bharat, and Made for Bharat.” Meanwhile, ahead of the commercial 4G launch, BSNL announced that the company won’t increase tariffs.

As BSNL posted its brand new profile pic on X/Twitter, netizens took the telco to cleaners taking potshots at its shoddy services. “First provide better service than all these jumlas,” jibed a user. “Change your poor network, not profile pic, quipped another.” Yet another wrote, “Haan ye kar lo pehle.” “Bsnl ke bhagwakaran se achha network theek kar dete,” commented one netizen. Several other users mocked that they used either Airtel or Jio to even download this pfp as the BSNL’s home network was (insert expletives). One netizen remarked that BSNL announces new profile pic like a Facebook uncle. Another user explained the abbreviation of BSNL as Bhool Se Na Le! One user requested the X/Twitter account of BSNL to at least get verified as it looks like a parody account of itself.
