Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor have landed in legal trouble. A case has been filed against them under the POCSO Act for allegedly showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of the ALTBalaji web series Gandii Baat.
The case is related to season six of the web series Gandii Baat on the OTT platform ALTBalaji. According to Mumbai Police, a case has been registered against Balaji Telefilm Limited, Ekta Kapoor, and her mother Shobha Kapoor at MHB police station in Mumbai under sections 295 A (blasphemy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), IT Act, and sections 13 and 15 (using a minor for pornographic purposes) of the POCSO Act.
It is written in the complaint that this series, which streamed on ALTBalaji between February 2021 and April 2021, showed obscene scenes of minor girls. However, this controversial episode is not currently streaming on this app.
The authorities are currently investigating the case. As of now, Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms have not released a statement regarding the case. Kapoor launched ALTBalaji, an on-demand video platform, in 2017. Gandii Baat had seven seasons, and the adult comedy drama was helmed by Sachin Mohite.
Ekta Kapoor became a household name with her hit television serials. She has produced serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Naagin, and Kundali Bhagya, to name a few.
Apart from serials, she has also produced movies. Some of them are Krishna Cottage, Shor In The City, Ragini MMS, Thank You For Coming, and Crew. Recently, she produced Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2. The movie dealt with how youngsters navigate relationships in a digitally obsessed society. Unlike the first film, the sequel bombed at the box office.
