Yash has finally confirmed that he will be playing the role of Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayan. Also led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita Devi, the film is one of the most anticipated releases of the coming year. Amid speculation about Ravan’s casting the actor has remained silent, but he finally opened up about the same during an interview.

Few pictures and videos from the sets have gone viral revealing first looks of many actors but Yash has not been spotted yet. Talking about the project Yash told the portal that he came across it when interacting with Namit Malhotra, of VFX company DNEG and Prime Focus. They met to talk about his upcoming film Toxic but also opened up about Nitesh Tiwari’s project.
When asked if he would like to play Ravan, he told Namit, “If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kind of actors to come together and work for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We have to place the project and the vision first.”

Talking about casting, Yash revealed that Ranbir was already part of the project when he joined but he added about Sai Pallavi and said, “Sai Pallavi, we took a collaborative decision. I believe this film has to have everybody from south and north for it to be a… Nitesh ji always wanted Sai Pallavi. I also said that it’s a great choice.”
He also added that he would not play any other character in Ramayan, he said, “For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it,” he said.
The film is expected to release by the end of 2025.
